 Summer Camp: Kids discover America and Canada
Kids from elementary school are invited to join the d.a.i -Kids' Camp this summer. They have the opportunity to learn English in a small group and to experience an attractive leisure-program. The Kids' Camp "Discover America" takes place during the first week of vacation; the last week is themed "Canada for Kids". There will be plenty of fun and action. Are you interested in learning German? The d.a.i. is offering German courses for the first time. You can choose between a two-week intensive class or a ten-week evening class.
On Saturday, 12th of January (10 am - 1pm), the d.a.i. is open for you to ask questions, sign up for courses or visit the library. You can also just drop in during office hours, and we will help with any questions you might have.

 The New York City Marathon – Running through the Big Apple
A small group of runners from Tübingen took upon themselves a great task in 2006: the New York City Marathon. They wanted to be part of the 90,000 runners who made their way through New York. On their exhausting run through the Big Apple the runners were cheered and celebrated by a huge crowd. What they experienced on their way can be seen at the d.a.i. until December 7th, Tuesday – Friday from 9 AM – 6 PM.... more

 Paper and Poetry on June 16th
Viviane Bertrand will give a performance within the scope of the Tübingen Bücherfest. The Canadian artist will unfold poetry in word as well as in paper, with the techniques provided by the art of paper folding. The poetry of ee cummings and the music of John Cage are the frame for the performance.

Viviane Bertrand is an exceptional artist. She has travelled through China, India, and Thailand and has also studied and practiced Zen in Japan.

 Eleanor and David Antin in Tübingen on June 11th and 12th
Eleanor Antin is an artist of international standing. She is famous for her photographs, videos, movies, performances, and her writing. She will be participating in this year’s Documenta in Kassel. On June 11th she will give a lecture at the d.a.i. titled "My Art, My Work. Meet the Artist Eleanor Antin".

David Antin is a poet and belongs to the avant-garde. He will give a lecture on June 12th in the Hölderlinturm. His lecture is called "Poetry as Thinking" or "Was heißt Denken?"

 New exhibition: Moscow – New York. Double Exposure Express
How do you squeeze Moscow and New York onto one photograph? Easy, you use lomography!

If you are now asking yourself, what exactly lomography is, you can come to the d.a.i. and find out. Our new exhibition is called:"Moscow – New York. Double Exposure Express" and shows a colorful blend of the two cities.

The exhibition features works from Ingeborg Jaiser and Lothar Schmidt, Germany's lomographic ambassadors. Charlotte Sacher and Neil Davidson also contributed some photographs.

The four German-American Institutes from Baden-Württemberg presented themselves in Eppingen at the second Baden-Württemberg day on May 20th. Dr. Renate Vollmer from the US Consulate General in Frankfurt/M answered questions concerning college education and jobs in the USA.
Tübingen's Brassband "Louisiana Funky Butts" created a lively atmosphere together with Mr. Big, the man on stilts. To round things off, there were such delicacies as salted popcorn and typical American sweets.

 Lecture: And the Race is On! on April 12th
Whom should I vote for: Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, or John McCain? This is the question Americans are beginning to ask themselves now, long before the presidential election in 2008. The campaigning has begun and the candidates and their helpers are preparing themselves for a long and arduous time.

The political scientist Crister Garrett will take a look at the concepts behind the candidates' political programs and explain possible consequences for US internal politics and foreign affairs. It’s going to be exciting!

 Concert: Khalif "Wailin'" Walter on March 31st
Khalif "Wailin'" Walter lit up the Chicago Blues music scene with his unique style of Boogie Blues. He now calls the European market his home base where he regularly delivers foot stomping, finger snapping Blues that sets the roof on fire.

With his stormy guitar work and brash New Orleans style vocals Walter creates a sound reminiscent of greats like Freddie King, Albert King, and Albert Collins.

 Excursion: Americans in Paris -- little space left!!
There will be an excursion to Paris from November 1st - 4th. Many American authors and artists of the 20th century lived or spent some time in this cultural and intellectual hot-spot.
Join us to explore the trail of authors like, Gertrude Stein or Ernest Hemingway.

In the course of the Jazz- und Klassiktage music fans can enjoy great music at the d.a.i.:

On October 24th in process will perform at the d.a.i. This is the group's second appearance at the d.a.i. and they will again present their mix of African rhythms, Indonesian sounds, and occidental Jazz.
On October 26th the Daniel Guggenheim Quartett will look for the roots of Jazz with their "traces of … Jazz" program.

 Youth Fair
About 140 students interested in travelling to an English-speaking country attended the Youth Fair on October 13th in Reutlingen.
Foreign travel providers informed the students about the prerequisites of travelling. The students could also join a discussion between former foreign travellers and learn from the experiences they have made.
The lecture "Prepare for the USA!" from the Amerika Haus Köln concluded the Youth Fair.

 23.05.2006 A wonderful feast – the Arabian-American Dialogue celebrated its 2nd birthday!
90 enthusiastic guests celebrated the 2nd birthday of the Arabian-American Dialogue on Friday 19th. After several welcoming speeches and congratulating the anniversary (e.g. from US consulate general’s deputy consul Jeffrey Arnold), the two hosts Penelope Pinson and Hussein Hamdan led through a diverse and entertaining program that consisted of Arabic as well as American cultural contributions. A delicious potluck-buffet with Arabian coffee and treats from the US and various Arabian countries delighted the guests and was a great success.... more
