American literature specialist and writer Carolyn Murphey Melchers will guide you through the best of contemporary and classic American literature. Copies of the selected books are available in the d.a.i. library.

Permanent Record is the 2019 autobiography by Edward Snowden, whose revelations sparked a global debate about surveillance. Upon release, the United States filed a lawsuit against Snowden for alleged violations of non-disclosure agreements with the CIA and NSA.

Fahrenheit 451, often regarded as one of Ray Bradbury’s best works, presents a future American society where books are outlawed and „firemen“ burn any that are found. The book‘s tagline explains the title: „Fahrenheit 451 – the temperature at which book paper catches fire, and burns...“

Educated: A Memoir by Tara Westover is a memoir that describes the struggle of a young girl who escapes from violence and an emotional prison. It is a conflicting story of fierce family loyalty as well as that of the intense sorrow that arises from the division of one’s closest ties.
