California Greening: Leading Americans to a Carbon Neutral World

Talk with Prof. Dr. David Biggs, University of California. In the era of Trump, California has become a place and a symbol for green leadership. California's leaders and citizens at large have rejected climate change deniers in Washington, and they remain committed as the world's 6th-largest economy to reducing carbon emissions to net zero. The „Under2 MoU“, can be seen as a perfect example: an agreement to collaborate more intensely in order to fight climate change which originated from a bilateral partnership between California and Baden Württemberg. This talk explores three stories of California Greening in more detail, focusing on emissions, water and energy. David Biggs is Associate Professor of Environmental History and Public Policy at the University of California, Riverside. Currently he is a Carson Fellow at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society in München. Afterwards, Dr. Ulrich Maurer, Head of Division of the Ministry of Environment of Baden-Württemberg, International Cooperation, will explain the “Under2 MoU” and talk about the treaty’s growth and impact.
