The killing of George Floyd in 2020 brought the #BlackLivesMatter movement back into the spotlight and sparked the debate on race relations in the U.S. and beyond. Police violence is just one aspect of racial inequity that Black and Brown people face daily. In this presentation, Yasmin Nasrudin will examine current racial inequalities in the United States and Germany and the role of the #BlackLivesMatter movement in their commitment to justice for all.
Yasmin Nasrudin is the coordinator for school outreach and student advising at the German-American Institute Tübingen. She wrote her bachelor’s thesis on the patriarchal structures in the Black Civil Rights and #BlackLivesMatter movements. She co-initiated the initiative “Black History in Baden-Württemberg,” is the chairwoman of Blacks Connected e.V. and a board member of the Association of Elected Officials of African descent in Germany.
