  • Tübinger Bücherfest - Meet the Author: Emily Mitchell

    Sonntag, 28.05.2017 - 15:00 Uhr

The author will read from her story collection Viral (W. W. Norton, 2015) which combines the familiar with the magical, strange and uncanny to explore themes of transience, estrangement and the quest for connection. The book can be described as exceptionally readable! A rich collection that takes the familiar obsessions of love and loneliness and views them from uncanny angles in ways that are magical, cutting and intensely recognizable. Told with absurd humor and sweet sadness, and the stories in Viral are about being lost in the places that are supposed to feel like home. Emily Mitchell is the also author of a novel The Last Summer of the World (W. W. Norton, 2007), which was a finalist for the NYPL Young Lions Award and was translated into German (Bilder eines Sommers). Her short fiction has appeared in Harper’s, New England Review, Ploughshares and other magazines. She is the recipient of fellowships for the Breadloaf Writer’s Conference, the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and the Ucross Foundation and teaches at the University of Maryland.
