  • Challenges and Opportunities for LGBTQIA+ Students on U.S. Campuses

    Dienstag, 14.06.2022 - 18:00 Uhr

Talk with Genny Beemyn and Maggie Brackenridge, University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Harassment, discrimination against queer and trans people, and lack of access to resources and services for LGBTIQA+ students are prevalent on U.S. campuses and other institutions. That is why queer students look at safe and inclusive learning environments when applying for U.S. colleges and universities. In this conversation, we will look at what kind of policies, programs, and practices make a university LGBTQIA+ friendly and the availability of financial aid and research opportunities for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Genny Beemyn is the Director of the Stonewall Center at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. They have published and spoken extensively on the experiences and needs of trans college students, including writing some of the first articles on the topic. Among the more than dozen books and journal issues that Genny has written and edited are The Lives of Transgender People, A Queer Capital: A History of Gay Life in Washington, D.C., and the anthology Trans People in Higher Education.

Maggie Brackenridge is the Director of International Admissions and the Regional Representative for Europe and Taiwan at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
