  • Build Me a Hummingbird of Words: Tiny Texts

    Montag, 15.01.2024 - 14:00 Uhr - 16:30 Uhr

Meet the Poet & Prose Writer

Creative Writing Workshop with Beth Ann Fennelly, University of Mississippi. Learn how to write like a professional! The hummingbird is the only bird that can fly forward, backward, sideways, and, for short distances, upside down—hummingbirds can do things other birds can’t do precisely because they are so small. In this class, you’ll look at tiny texts and learn what can be accomplished in a small space that can’t be accomplished in a bigger one. You will gain familiarity with the monostich, the 6-word memoir, one-sentence essays, hint fiction, and the micro- memoir. After looking at some examples, you’ll attempt to create one yourself. Beth Ann Fennelly’s workshop offers the opportunity to refine your skills under the mentorship of one of the most outstanding creative writers of our time. Through practical tasks and personal chats, you can take your own writing to new heights.

Beth Ann Fennelly, poet laureate of Mississippi from 2016-2021, is the author of six books, most recently, Heating & Cooling: 52 Micro-Memoirs. In 2020, she was named an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow.
