d.a.i. Top Talk

Talk with Fiona Hill, Washington, D.C.

Fiona Hill is a very special guest from Washington, D.C. She served as a National Intelligence Officer for president George W. Bush and Barack Obama (2006 – 2009) and as a Special Assistant to the president Donald Trump (2017 – 2019). She is a well-known foreign policy expert, was senior director for European and Russian affairs on the National Security Council and testified against Trump in the first impeachment process. Hill has researched and published extensively on issues related to Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, regional conflicts, energy, and strategic issues and works as a Senior Fellow at Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.

Her memoir There is Nothing for You Here: Finding Opportunity in the 21st Century traces the journey of a coal miner’s and midwife’s daughter from poor working class England to the White House – via Moscow and Harvard.

„This book has a miraculous quality. Fiona Hill has transformed her own predicament in the Trump administration into a prescription for a better America.” Timothy Snyder, Yale University

At the d.a.i., Fiona Hill will talk about her upbringing in Durham county, UK, and how her school exchange to Durham’s sister city Tübingen influenced her. She will address to what extent the lack of equal opportunities is fueling the polarization of society in the U.S., in Russia, and in Europe. And she will address the current situation in Ukraine with its consequences for the United States and the rest of the world.
