"Ambassadors in Sneakers - A Young Leaders’ Transatlantic Summer Academy on Human Rights" was a four-week educational program that brought together members of youth councils, student councils and similar youth leadership committees from Germany and the U.S. Its central focus was on the topic of human rights. While travelling together in Germany and the U.S., the young leaders learned about places and institutions significant for the development of and struggle for human rights. They met activists, media representatives and politicians and learned from them, as well as from and with each other, to gain a broader perspective on human rights issues, as well as on both countries’ political structures and interrelations.
Between 2017 and 2023, a total of five iterations, each with different participants and in different places, were conducted to great success by the German-American Institute Tuebingen .
