  • (Re)storying Indigenous Worlds: Meet the Author David A. Robertson

    Dienstag, 07.11.2023 - 18:15 Uhr

Talk, reading, and Q+A. David A. Robertson is a member of Norway House Cree Nation and the celebrated author of over twenty-five books, mostly children's and young-adult fiction and graphic novels, but also an adult novel, a memoir, and the five-part podcast /Kíwew/. Many of his bestselling books won major national awards. Robertson does not shy away from heavy subjects, such as Indigenous residential school experience and intergenerational trauma: “The truth can be uncomfortable. But it’s also necessary. Kids have the right to learn from a place of truth. They deserve it,” he says. To meet kids at their level, he works with educators, Indigenous Elders, and cultural advisers to ensure the content is accurate, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive. In his talk, Robertson will discuss what it means to write these books and address historical and contemporary Indigenous experiences in popular fictional genres.

David A. Robertson is an Indigenous Canadian author, public speaker, and two-time winner of the Governor General's Literary Award from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and currently lives in Winnipeg, Canada.
